Legislative Advocacy

The San Diego Chapter of the AAP encourages advocacy amongst its members and other’s in the community who have an interest in issues affecting children. A portion of our San Diego Chapter resources is dedicated to helping our AAP District Leadership (California) in its legislative efforts in Sacramento. On the local level, partnerships between the AAP and the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, Children’s Hospital, UCSD, the Council of Community Clinics, and other public and private entities have helped promote and sustain many programs for children in our area.

Local & California State Government

You can participate directly in AAP-CA advocacy by visiting your legislator(s) in their local district office. The purpose of the visit is to introduce yourself as a resource on child health issues, and to educate them about our priorities.

AAP-CA PUBLIC BILL LIST

ON BEHALF OF AAP-CA CHAPTERS

AAP California Chapters 1, 3 and 4 advocate together on state-level issues related to children’s health and well-being and the practice of pediatrics. Our work is strictly nonpartisan, and addresses the many CA bills and budget items related to child health access and reimbursement, vaccines, mental and behavioral health, prevention of childhood injury and trauma, youth vaping, and childhood obesity, the importance of achieving racial and ethnic child health parity, and advocacy for COVID-19 policies that support the public health and the viability of pediatric practices.
